The Tragic Tale

The famed Shakespearean tragedy Macbeth graces the Cincinnati stage, courtesy of a contemporary take from director Christopher V. Edwards for the Cincinnati Shakespeare Company. Since Macbeth's first staging in 1606, the play has been performed many times including throughout the 18th and 19th centuries. The story has also been told throughout modern times via theater and film as well as inspiring literature and music, making it one of the most enduring and influential works of all time.

What is the story?

Macbeth, encouraged by a prophecy from three mysterious witches and fueled by the ambitions of his power-hungry wife Lady Macbeth, is consumed by a desire to seize the throne. As he succumbs to his dark ambitions, Macbeth becomes entangled in a web of deceit, betrayal, and guilt. The play explores the consequences of unchecked ambition, ultimately delving into the psychological turmoil that plagues Macbeth as he faces the harrowing consequences of his actions.
