Twelfth Night

Why see Twelfth Night?

The Classic Comedy

A tale full of classic Shakespearean themes, including gender-bending disguises, love both fierce and unrequited, a gaggle of servants set on outwitting their bosses, and plenty of quintessential quotes, Twelfth Night is a perennial delight. Don't miss this new production as it brings the magic to a stage near you!

What is the story?

Twelfth Night is the delightfully spirited tale of Viola, a shipwrecked orphan who takes matters into her own hands when stranded on the shores of an ancient isle. Populated by a lovelorn Duke, a mourning (yet single) Lady and enough carousing servants to fill Downton Abbey, Viola must assume the disguise of a man just to find her way. And when that disguise lands her in a love triangle, she's no choice but to hold on as the hijinks flow. Love, laughter, and delight shine on all corners of the Bard's mad-cap masterpiece.

Entertaining and Larhe in atal nt

Overall, the Caribbean theme worked but there was no understandable imperative for making that change. A bit of a mystery to many of us in the audience . Also why contemporary music didn’t then follow the calypso theme like no Woman O Cry. Instead the stage seemed to be a showcase for great voices but the songs had no rhyme or reason for being in the show other than being about love. More Marley or Ska rather than the dongs that we’re used would have worked better. All of the acting and singing were excellent but they detracted from the beauty of the language and the messages embedded in it about live and appearances. Overall, great performers for broadway but a bit of an overreach for contemporizing Shakespeare through the venue and adding music. Like the film Skakesoeare in Love. Maybe this is what opera and Shakespeare theaters need to do to attract youn theater goers. I prefer more traditional productions. But all the performances were superb at what they were asked to do. ... Read more
